Lunch with Brian

Mandola's Italian Market, March 31, 2008

I got the basil pesto pasta and Brian got a Margherita pizza. He asked them to add pancetta making a typically vegetarian pizza into a carnivore's pizza. On the way there, we saw "Bat City" painted on the side of a building. I thought that sounded like something you call someone who's crazy. "You're bat city!!"

We also saw a guy on a street corner with one of those begging signs. It had a lot of words on it, so I didn't have time to read the whole thing as we drove by. But the first line was "I've lost all hope." I was thinking if the guy is standing on a street corner begging, he must have *some* hope.

Brian talked about the county political convention he attended on Saturday. He was there from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or something ridiculous like that. He didn't get elected to be a delegate at the state convention. He was explaining how it all works, but I think whoever dreamed up the process must be bat city.

After we ate our meal, we looked at the dessert counter. Brian wasn't going to get anything, but then he saw the cheesecake gelatto. They had balanced a big slice of cheesecake on top of the gelatto, and that sold Brian on it. He said it didn't really taste like cheesecake, though.
